Mac Users: How hard is adjustment from PC to iMac?
I am thinking of going the way of the iMac for its music/video/creative stuff. I have been PC for a long time now.
For those that have made the switch, is it easy? Are there significant problems I will encounter with a Mac as it relates to surfing the web? Word processing?

Jon,
I began using a mac when I started college (software I needed) about 8 yrs ago. I have been using both PC and Mac ever since (PC at work, Mac for personal). The hardest part if I can recall was the "right click" (which you can still do) and the close/ minimize buttions (reversed). Now, going back and forth is easy- I do it without thinking
Overall, I think the Mac operating system is easier and more intuitive, especially if you're not computer- savy (like myself). You can also run virtual PC within Leopard/ Jaguar etc. - so that may help you make the switch If that is what you end up doing.
Re: Mac Users: How hard is adjustment from PC to iMac?
I just love how the iMac is all in one, I love the garage band and the video editing stuff that is standard with the Mac's. And the 24inch HD screen, 4gb of ram, 640GB hardrive for around $1,500, with all the music stuff I will be able to do...I have the bug right now. I am trying to sleep on it before making the plunge.
Plus, I can get a 48 key piano keyboard and a pretty nice speaker and subwoofer for less than $300.
So if I do this, if anyone is in the market for a sweet Yamaha weigted key full piano/keyboard, shoot me an email :)

....are you gonna go all Peter Gammons and release an album?

Consider also your PDA device if you have one- sync-ing a PC device w/ a mac will require extra software.

I just got one at work, but I can sync it at the office each day. I dont need to be that tied to it.

LOL
I doubt that I release an album, although I have enough original material to do that. Other than friends and family and sharing stuff online, I doubt I go down that road.
But, right now my stuff is just a guitar bed, and one or two vocal tracks. I want to add percussion and some keyboard, and other aspects to what I have done...and i just think the iMac is gonna be the best bet for that.
But I want to make sure that my day to day word processing and web browsing aren't sacrificed too far just for those things.

It's mostly an adjustment in the wallet.

My wife runs Office on her Mac laptop. Basically the same stuff, but arranged a little differently. You'll notice little to no difference web browsing. No show stoppers there. The biggest complaint I have going back and forth is the lack of right-clicking on her laptop. There is only one mouse button. That makes word processing difficult. I've never used an iMac before however so I'm not sure how its mouse is setup.

They dont have a 'split' mouse, but you can right click...if that makes sense.

If you have to use a mac mouse (single button) holding "control" while clicking will get you the right click options.
Otherwise, you can just buy a two button mouse and right clicking works just like it would on a PC.

So you can copy and paste and do all PC mouse functions, if you plug in a PC mouse into a Mac? very nice!

The Mac Mighty Mouse looks like the regular old one-button Mac mice but functions as a two-button mouse. I believe that's what Jon is talking about, and I think they're standard on all Macs now.
Re: Mac Users: How hard is adjustment from PC to iMac?
I had a Mac for years for graphics and video editing. I recently got a Windows machine for word processing and such. Going back and forth between them is nothing for me. There are a few unique quirks like the mouse, and the fact that the Mac's command key for shortcuts is where the alt key is on Windows. There are no real major differences. It shouldn't be hard for anyone to go between Windows and Mac.
