HELP getting the right resolution on monitor

I'm having trouble finding the right resolution to fit with my brand new monitor. Is it something that I can fix myself of is it a video card problem?

When you go into the control panel what options do you have? I have my 19" set at 1280x1024.

I assume the video card came with the PC and is only giving you a few options? If that's the case than you'll need a different video card.

How do you mean? Like when you go to display properties you can't select the correct resolution? If so I would update your video card drivers first.

I have that but its not the right resolution for my monitor. The max resolution I can get is 1920x1080 but that is not an option under by display panel

If you can't select a high enough res then it's a video card issue most likely. I'd update the drivers, how old is the video card?

Brand new, less than a month

I'm guessing when your new video card got installed your drivers might not have gotten updated. First step will be finding what graphics card you have unless you already know. Then go to that companies web site and download an updated driver.

When I was there I didn't know it was a new graphics card. Thought the reason you got the monitor was so you didnt have to get a new card. However, this makes a lot more sense now.

try rebooting the computer, and then checking again to see if you can change the resolution.

I agree. Sometimes when you hook up a new monitor you have to reboot it in order for it to recognize it properly. I would reboot and check again, if it's still not an option go the updating driver route.
