Nevada may loosen its smoking restrictions
It had been illegal in Nevada to allow smoking in establishments that serve food. Legislation is expected to pass to allow smoking in these establishments as long as minor are not allowed in.
The tavern owners claimed they lost as much as a quarter of their business after the smoking ban was approved

Re: Nevada may loosen its smoking restrictions
Anyone else get confused when they read this? The first thing that came to mind was wouldn't the state law susperseed this legislation? Then I realized I've lived in central Iowa too long.

In the name of being economically fair we should halt all progress in this country. Smoking kills users and those exposed to it. It's ill-effects weren't known to it's users until long after it had an addicted stranglehold on this country and most of the world......but let's not correct a wrong now that we have better science and knowledge. Let's be more concerned that a bar owner makes enough money. Darwinism at it's best.

Have you guys ever been to the nice casino's in Vegas? They allow smoking all over and I've never been bothered by it. If every bar had ventilation like that I wouldn't have a problem with smoking.

So every potential health risk should be controlled by the government regardless of what people themselves may want? That is not the type of government I seek.

Well...this is headed to the cave.
No, I don't want that type of government either. But when it comes to smoking--you do it in public and your actions adversely effect the health of others. Those addicted to it won't stop doing it in public...so the government should step in. No different really than enforcing a speed limit. Driving insanely fast endangers the lives of others. It used to be lawful, but eventually the inherent danger in it caused the government to step in and regulate it. Same here, but only worse--this is an addiction.

Re: Nevada may loosen its smoking restrictions
IMO it is quite a bit different than enforcing the speed limit. In fact, I see few similarities.
Roads are publicly owned. Taverns are privately owned.
People don't have choices when it comes to driving on the roads while they do have a choice where to dine.

Before anyone else says it, I also hate kids and would like to see them banned at restaurants. In fact I'd rather have someone blow smoke in my face than a child crying.
