Rim straightening

Just found out that one of my rims (15" alloy) is bent on my Camry and one of the options presented by the tire place was to have it straightened for $150. I contacted the local Toyota dealership to see if I could get a new one and they said since it was an older model (2000) the rim was not in stock. My question is has anyone had this done before? If so, is it a long term solution? Were you happy with it? My initial thinking is that bending the rim back straight again will only serve to weaken it further. But then again I don't know jack about these sort of things. Thanks in advance for your help.

Call salvage yards looking for one of a junked car. A lot cheaper and it hasn't been bent.

Better problem than the (very marginally) cracked rim that one of these days I'm going to have to have replaced. Car dealership called a local scrapyard and said it was going to cost $350...

We are constantly repairing (bending back) our aluminum racing wheels and havent had any problems.

You should be able to pick up some Crager SS's for a couple hundred

I would agree about checking with the scrapyard. The Camry is one of the most sold vehicles so i would think there should be a ton of them.

I just looked on ebay and there is one there for $80. Did a "2000 rim camry" search.

Oops. Looks like that's the steel 15". They have an alloy but that's 16".

Call the scrapyard yourself. If they told you $350 then that means you could get it from the scrapyard yourself for $175 since they double the price they pay for parts on a regular basis.

$150 for just straightening seems like a rip to me, I'd look for a remanufactured wheel. I've bought several reconditioned Chrysler 17" alloys for $150 (vs $400 new). They are straight, plus they are refinished so they look like brand new. Check these guys:
