Re: Losing Weight
Stop eating when you're full - and there is a big difference between full and stuffed.
When you do eat, stick to whole foods. Whole foods are unprocessed foods. Meat, fruits, vegetables and nuts are the best. Avoid anything with more than three ingredients.

You dont even have to run, just go for a walk everyday. Running burned me out right away so I decided to give myself walking goals. Now over lunch I walk around the downtown when I can. I also play basketball twice a week. Yep - a doctor friend has told me that exercise, while important for overall health, doesn't do much for weight loss. Up the fruits and veggies, and just eat smaller with more quality. Avoid eating late at night - you don't do anything to burn off those calories as you sleep.

Re: Losing Weight
Try Hungryman and you will notice a difference in your TP inventory but for eating it for a diet not a good choice

I spent a few weeks in China also- lots more fried foods. They are all really skinny.
So the difference to me is the processed, preserved, frozen meals (besides activity level, which was more). Just an observation.

Re: Losing Weight
Ive got your same frame and age but was packing 300+ on it. I finally got my numbers(chol, trig, bp) straightened out when I switched doctors. I joined a weight loss program on the internet called myfitnesspal.com and have really liked it so far. It has a community atmosphere like cf and makes you log everything you stick in your mouth. I get somewhere near 2100 calories per day and that is plenty of food. I too walk almost every night. I couldnt believe how many calories were in some of my normal meals. Taco Bell Lunch 1400 calories, Mcdonalds 1200 calories. No wonder I was packing it on.

My initial thougts are smaller food portions, cut out foods with white flour and potatoes, and try to excercise more. The exercising more part is a little tough for me right now with 3 little kids.
Any suggestions? A year ago I was 286. I began watching what I eat and how much I ate. I totally eliminated fast food, soda and potato chips from my diet. I also go to the gym 2-3 times a week. As my signature states I have lost over 100 lbs.

Actually, since I snack then, I probably shouldn't.

Actually, since I snack then, I probably shouldn't. Well, if you're awake until 8 AM or so, you're safe. If you're going to bed at 4 AM, then you had better slow down.

Re: Losing Weight
For me, this is working (36 lbs since thanksgiving) : - treadmill at least 5-times a week (worked up slowly to the 400 calorie workout)
- low carb/good carb (learn to cook)
- a pair of dumbells (you can't alway see results from the first two but pumping the guns always feels and looks good)
- take a break once in a while and have a pizza!
i'm happy to say i'm merely overweight now. obesity sucked.

Re: Losing Weight
I'd suggest avoiding anything appearing in the banner ads on this thread. I get a laugh out of the Gabriel Method where the guy apparently went from 400lbs to 180 and chiseled. If he really lost that much he'd be a sagging mess.

Re: Losing Weight
If you want to lose 1 lb of fat per week, either eat 500 Calories less per day or burn 500 Calories more per day or a combination of both. The 500 Calorie deficit per day is the key. Eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grain products helps with the Calories coming in. Most of the weight loss experts suggest a rate of weight loss of 1 to 1.5 lbs per week. When you lose 20% of your weight take a break and stay at that level for a while to let your metabolism adjust to the new weight. Then you can continue if you want to. By the way, the younger you are, the easier it is. If you are interested, the USDA website, www.mypyramid.gov lets you enter the food and beverages you eat or drink and it will tell you what your Caloric intake is. Hope this helps.

I think we have some people trying that strategy.

Any suggestions? Bobber, please forgive me. I was assuming you were 60+
