I once finished 43rd in the "Most Influential NKOTB Fan Message Board Poster," but it took a lot of vote rigging to get it done.

Next year if Time has write-in votes for their Internet poll, we all know who the Most Influential "Person" of the Year is going to be.... Cy!

Well 4chan is clearly one of the most, if not THE most, influential site on the internet in terms of popular culture. If there's a meme out there, there's a real good chance it started on 4chan.

It's everything that's right, and everything that's wrong with the internet all tied up into one tidy little ball.

Well...Here's proof that Time.com was hacked to get the results 4Chan manipulators wanted:

Tina Fey

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?

I don't think there's much that is "right" with it - it's funny on occasion (can be quite frequently), and its members are good at organizing... but not for anything useful or constructive. It has also brought us such crap as LOLcats and RickRolling. While I'm sure these were funny five years ago (on a very limited basis - LOLcats were never funny), I don't need the 38-year-old creepy guy at work who is just catching on telling me he "can haz" crap every three minutes.

Ang, do you ever Rick Roll yourself? I know I do. I'm starting to go blind from it.

The internet latched onto those things. You can't blame /b for it's overuse, just like you can't blame Dane Cook's parents for, well Dane Cook. (though I think technically you could blame them..but you get my point).

There's some pure comedy gold that comes out of there. There's also a fair amount of complete and utter crap - just like the rest of the internet :D

But to claim that it's "everything right" with the internet is a stretch, just because it has a few good jokes. All that the masses organize to do is perform destructive activities. There's nothing good about that. They could use that to do things a lot more constructive than to hack Salma Hayek's computer.

Did you say there's pure comedy gold that comes out of Dane Cook?

Ok, well maybe not EVERYTHING right with the internet, but from the internet-as-entertainment perspective, it's high on the l ist.

God I hope not. I meant that comedy gold comes out of /b. Dane Cook then takes that comedy gold and claims it as his own while having some sort of convulsion on stage.
