Fairly new to the scene but everyone of their beers is rated A- or better on Beer Advocate, a site that I have a lot of respect for. They don't neccesarily adhere to strict style guidelines, they just brew what they like to drink. Their IPA called Furious is the bomb though.
Seriously, check them out if you get the chance. They distribute all of their stuff in 16oz. cans too, which is ace. Wow, apparently I missed the boat on Surly. I've only lived up here for a couple years now, but haven't even heard of this place. I'll have to check it out - thanks for posting.
Edit: Too many brews....too little time. :)

I like both of them, though.
Beamish is a great Irish stout. I prefer it any day over Guinness. Boddington's is alright. A little bland for my generally overstimulated palate, but there's nothing wrong with it either!

I do love pushing my palate, and being able to understand and enjoy a wide variety of beers. And come on, it's friday and it's sunny. How can you NOT be thinking about brew? I just got back from an intense study session, going to run the Greenbelt Trail up in Clive, and then crack open a Flying Dog when I get home. Ahhh....

Just opened a Rype Orange wheat...not bad. GF got me this beer of the month club for Christmas and I haven't kept up this month with my FE and finals.

Re: Friday beer thread...
Just got started on my Kerberos Tripel. I like it alot. It has that classic Belgian flavor, and it's VERY drinkable (especially for the ABV). It's not as overpowering as some Belgian styles I've had, but it strikes a nice balance. I'll be coming back to it for sure.

Re: Friday beer thread...
Anyone else have any thoughts on Moose Drool or anything from Big Sky?
I find it to be quite bland and uninspiring.

Boddington's is an English Pale Ale.
I don't think the two are very comparable (though they come in the same style cans). I was the biggest Guinness lover ever until I had my first Beamish. I still like Guinness but Beamish rocks. Havent had any since i was in Shannon Ireland coming back from the sand box last time.

Drinking Kings (Budweiser) and having a few dips of Skoal Mint.

Both the Long Strange Tripel and the Sixth Glass Quadruple are pretty good. I think the hub has had most of them at some point.
The hub took some beer appreciation classes from Kirkwood last year and I wanted to take them this year, but they weren't offered. Bastids. My beer knowledge is limited to what I glean off him.

I find it to be quite bland and uninspiring. I got a six of Trout Slayer Ale from Big Sky at the new Fareway in North Ames. I'm usually a big ale fan, but this beer wasn't all that good. Not nearly as good as Sierra Nevada. Their pale ale is great.

The Smokestack series is good stuff. I've had everything except the Saison so far. I think I would take the Flying Dog Kerberos over the Long Strange Tripel. Not by a wide margin, but I enjoyed it just a little bit more.

I find it to be quite bland and uninspiring. I had Moose Drool on tap out on Wyoming a few years back, and that it was awesome. I picked up a 6 pack when they started selling it here, and was a bit underwhelmed. I think a big part of why it was good out there was the fact we were drinking it after a long day on the slopes, and the bar we were at (Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole) was great.

Right now I'm drinking primarily Mexican beers because of Old Chicago's Cinco de Mayo Mini Tour. My favorite on the this tour is the Sol.

I find it to be quite bland and uninspiring. Moose Drool is decent but nothing spectacular. Best beer I've had from them is the Big Sky IPA which is quite good. Posted via Mobile Device
