Vintage Color Photos of US cities - SkyscraperCity

what is interesting about these pictures is that I didn't know they had color back then.

are you sure someone didnt add color to these photos?
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

Kodachrome was developed in the 1930s, if I recall correctly. At any rate, very interesting photos to see how these cities have changed.

Edit: no pun intended on the "developed," I swear.

Yeah, I guess that movies like Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind weren't in color a decade before these photos.

I don't care if the color is real or not - those are some sweet photos. I really find it intriguing how cities evolve.

A couple St. Louis pics showed the arch. It was completed in 1965 - so they are some time after that...

Gone with the wind was made during the thirties and I believe it was in color.

Those pictures have a caption over them that says 1966.

if you scroll down you can see some pictures taken of Des Moines in 1959.

    Some things never change.

I don't know, besides the capital this doesn't look familiar. There are a ton of changes happening on the west side of downtown. I remember a decade ago when there were all kinds of porn stores on the opposite side of the Blues on Grand. That area looks so much better. When I first moved he in the early 90's Betts Lexus was also in that area if I remember right.

    Re: sick link

Amazing to see how much these cities have changed. I completely agree with the replies too -- these cities had so much character back then, when you didn't have corporate logos plastered everywhere and streets packed with cars. Almost wish I had a time machine so that I could go back and see what these places looked like instead of relying on color photographs.
    Go Sssssssssyclones!
