Panasonic plasma. Best bang for the buck and far better picture than LCD. I'm not a fan of LCD at all. Action sequences suck (sports) and off center viewing picture sucks. At least they are more expensive.
I'll take LCD anytime! Plasma sucked... after a period of time the "gas" behind the glass had to be replaced... and the super ID of a certain network had its image burned into the corner of the screen.
Probably the most important consideration is where you'll be putting it. If it's a main level room with a few windows, I would definitely go LCD. In a basement room with little sunlight, your options are wide open. Give DLP a look - the new DLP's have a LED light source that should last the life of the TV, and they are usually cheaper than LCD's of the same size. I have a DLP and I love it. I also have an LCD, and you really can't go wrong with LCD either. It's all about personal preference.
