I just refuse to support Palm. As far as Im concerned they are a dying company. RIMM and Apple are wiping with them.

Re: Palm Pre?
I think it will be a cool phone, but it doesn't look like it will work with SERO, so I will not be getting it. WebOS should be pretty sweet, and I like that it has a physical keyboard.

Re: Palm Pre?
I am strongly considering it, but want to see the official pricing before deciding. It's a copy of the iPhone just like every car produced today is a copy of the first practical car. Not sure I would not purchase a new car based on that logic. Also the iPhone wasnt' the first touchscreen phone, the Pre has plenty of other features that set it apart, etc.

I read that too - but until I see it on the Sprint or Best Buy web site I'm not sure if it will be what's offered on June 6th - if I were a betting man I would certainly agree with you though as that's in line with other devices. Also want to see what it costs if I'm not eligble for an upgrade yet...might be pretty spendy.

Re: Palm Pre?
I'm strongly considering this. Some of the synergy features this thing offers just seem too cool to pass up. The fact that it can merge my contacts from multiple locations (google, facebook, outlook, etc) and identify and filter duplicate info is amazing. And it does the same with email accounts and calendars. Having all of that stuff combined in one easy to use portable device would be great.
If the GPS navigation is up to the standards of what they did on the Instinct, that would be a huge seller to me as well.
Plus, you get the multitouch and the gyroscope of the iphone, but you still get a real keyboard, which I much prefer. Also, the at&t data network is by far the worst of the 3 major carriers. Especially here in the midwest.

Did anyone see this?
This sucks for those affected. AT&T getting Verizon assets in 10 Neb. counties - Action 3 News - Omaha, Nebraska News, Weather, and Sports |
Probably a matter of time before more are bought up throughout the states.

Re: Palm Pre?
I'm going to get one as soon as I can. I've been holding out for this phone for a while now. The iPhone is just too locked down for my tastes, and I really dislike Apple on principal. Not to mention that it's only on AT&T.
Of course I've never owned a cell phone that wasn't a PalmOS product either, so I suppose I've got a little more incentive than most.
In terms of actually doing work on a phone, this seems to be lightyears ahead of the iPhone (then again, that wouldn't take much).

As for the off contract price, there were rumors out on the tech blogs a week or so ago about something around $429. That wouldn't be too bad for an off contract smart phone.
If some of you guys haven't had a chance, there are some demo videos on youtube that are really impressive. I think the way they are handling true multitasking on the phone is something that we will see copied my many other manufacturers in the future.

Re: Palm Pre?
Howard Stern had a number of comments on his show about the Pre. he had a Treo and was really looking into it, but ultimatley he went with a BB Bold. FWIW
