You make the call-Little League style
The Little League umpire thread made me remember back in the day when I used to ump as a high schooler for some extra money.
There was a call I still go back and forth on...
It was a play at the plate. The throw was up the line, so the catcher was about four feet or so off of home, on the third base side. The baserunner was barrelling toward home, and makes a headfirst dive toward the plate. The runner collides with the catcher, knocking the ball loose, and touches the plate.
Now, the rule is that you must slide in Little League. The runner in this instance was in more of a headfirst dive, but it could be argued that he was starting his slide in the proper area, but since the throw was up the line, he wasn't yet "down" into his slide.
Safe, or out due to not sliding??
Re: You make the call-Little League style
safe. It would be like sliding during pickle too far from any bag

I love when you ump our games. It was a pleasure talking to you the other day and I hope the MLB scouts noticed you. Please see umpire thread.

Wasn't me, but your thread did inspire this one!
Re: You make the call-Little League style
Safe, catcher was in the base path and dropped the ball during the tag. Especially if the child who was the runner did not intentionally plow the catcher over.

I'll add this:
The catcher was really small, and really got plowed by the baserunner.

Now that I think about it, I realize that it was a feetfirst dive that caught the small catcher right in the chest.
These were about 11-12 year olds.

He drop-kicked the catcher in the chest? Perhaps you should've mentioned this earlier

My memory is a bit hazy...it was about 20 years ago.
I was a bit embarrassed when I realized my misremembering of the feetfirst/headfirst thing.:embarrassed:

I heard the kid pulled out a knife and stabbed the catcher.
