Yeah, that's a pretty nice one (before the weeds come in over the summer, especially!) Des Moines is blessed with quite a few quality courses in the metro. The world championships in 2004 played at several different courses: Ewing, Pickard (Indianola), Walnut Ridge (Saylorville), and Big Creek for sure, I think they also visited Grandview and Gateway (Ames).

Sounds a lot like water works park.

Do people drink beer while playing this sport?

It winds through the woods and over a creek several times.
I used to love playing this course until I got too lazy. I want to say it's Snell Park in FD that has the disc golf course. That park (at least when I was a kid) had a ton of trees, but I don't remember it being a huge park.

But its a little crappy. Smells like rotten fish. Holes 1-3 have dead carp laying all over the place. And when I say all over, I'm talking 10 fish within 10 square feet.
I kinda wanna play Centennial now just to see which one sucks more. Originally Posted by acrozier22 Do people drink beer while playing this sport? Yes. It just sucks carrying it around with you.

I got wicked poison ivy there. Lasted all summer, so bad I had to wear pants all summer...
Also very easy to lose discs with very tight fairways. Not for the casual player in my opinion.

Yes. It just sucks carrying it around with you. I'm guessing that Water Works wouldn't be so bad w/out the dead fish.

But its still a boring course. 90% of the holes are straight ahead and it seems like they are all 250-350 feet. Not much variation. A lot of signs are missing. It can be a little confusing finding the next hole. Most of the launch pads are covered in a lot of dirt. And it's mostly wide open with some sparse trees. Definitely won't be going back there for awhile, if ever.

There's one right over by the WDM police station, Southwoods is the name of it, I think? It's a decent one.

Re: Disc Golf Courses
I travel around the state for work and I always check the small towns I drive through for courses (PDGA Disc Golf Course Directory | Professional Disc Golf Association). You'd be surprised at the number of small towns in IA with nice 18 hole courses. In Ames, I like both the courses, but prefer the ISU course because of the large annoying groups of shirtless undergrads that plague Carrol Marty. The course at Ewing Park is probably my favorite so far (as long as it isn't flooded).
