Iowa State Admission
so nowadays theres this score that determines your admission into the 3 major Iowa colleges. It's called the RAI or RIA or something like that...im not really sure...but anyway it takes into play your class rank, GPA, ACT score, and number of core classes youve taken in high school. The required score for entrance into these colleges is 245. Now I got a 237...but my guidance counselor said my transcript would be sent to committee and it would be examined individually to determine my entrance to iowa state. I got a 26 on my ACT, I have a 3.27 GPA, but due to my low class rank due to the high intelligence of my class...that screwed me over. Im just curious to know if any other people on here have had the same problem as me and still gotten into ISU. I know for sure that I would love to attend ISU and major in Meteorology.

Re: Iowa State Admission
Congrats! Welcome to ISU! I don't think you'll have a problem.

Re: Iowa State Admission
Isn't the average ACT score in Iowa like 19-20? I know people who got into ISU with ACT scores in the mid teens and had under a 3 GPA in HS. You should be just fine.

Re: Iowa State Admission
26 ACT and above a 3.0 GPA, you are easily in. I'll bit a million bazillion dollars on it.

Re: Iowa State Admission
LOL at this. I've looked this up before, but Iowa admits 85% of applicants period.
I had a 24 on my ACT, had a 3.5 GPA, poor class rank (in the top 33%. I graduated with almost 600 people), and I got in not question.
I wouldn't worry about this at all.

I hate that colleges take class rank that seriously. I have a 3.0 GPA, but that's probably only a little above average for my class

I feel pretty confident saying we will see you on campus next fall.

Re: Iowa State Admission
What school are you at that a 3.27 GPA doesn't get you in the top 40% of your class? A pretty small school?

If the lowest grade a high school gives is an A-, a kid's 3.4 GPA starts to look a lot less impressive (this is an exaggeration, but, seriously, there are many schools where C's are much, much lower than average).

Re: Iowa State Admission
You will probably be allowed in. I was in that exact same situation and had to go last summer and get a 2.0 or better to get in, that was before the new system though. At that time if you were not in the top half then they looked at your ACT score and if it was above a certain point you were let in, however I don't know how it happens now. My guess is you will be let in, however you may have to take some summer classes to prove that your good enough or whatever bs they say.

What percent of people does ISU accept?
