Southridge Mall
I was just reading this story about malls and saw Southridge on the endangered list. I haven't been out there in about 10 years. Is it completely empty or something?
BTW-They have Southridge in western Iowa for some reason. http://online.wsj.com/public/resourc...DMALL0905.html -
Re: Southridge Mall
It was going really well on a resurgance until Dave and Berry's left.

It's craptastic. My wife drug me out there a year or so ago to go to that really cheap clothing store. I felt dirty afterward.

On another note, I drove by Merle Hay and it actually looks like they're trying really hard to spruce that place up.

Living in Indianola I usually go up there to go to Younkers or Sears or something. But yeah it's a total dump, it'll close down soon IMO.

And by really well I mean not get shut down.
Though I went there to get cheap clothes and it all seemed good until I realized the shirts were crappy and gave them to goodwill.

Re: Southridge Mall
Southridge seems to be at about 70% occupancy (just pulled that number out of my ***). Lots of empty stores. -
Re: Southridge Mall
Frankly, I am surprised it's still going and we aren't having this conversation about Merle Hay.

I think that too but with a Target, Kohls, and places like Old Chicago, I think they have a shot at keeping it going. Heck the older people that still live in that area probably love that Jordan Creek is busy because now its not such a pain to get to a mall.

Yeah but lets see if they fill up all the empty store spaces they have. Seemed like the mall was 1/3 empty this past winter. They did bring in some new stores with the remodel, the biggest being Staples.

Merle Hay spent a lot of money to make the outside look better, but the inside is still a dump and a ton of stores have left. The main thing keeping them afloat is there is a Target attached to it now and they added a Staples. However, if you can't keep a GAP in your mall, you have problems.
My family and I live in Johnston, about 10 minutes away from Merle Hay, and we usually end up going to Jordan Creek or Valley West when we go to a mall. Merle Hay just doesn't have any stores we would shop at except for Kohls. We usually go to the Super Target instead of the mall Target as well.
