Re: where in Iowa
This thread is pretty unnecessary and potentially offensive, so it's going to be kept on a VERY short leash. One and only warning.

Re: where in Iowa
I have heard portions of Davenport are not too lovely. I have been to many places in Iowa that are struggling economically, but nothing I would compare to my time living in STL or Philly.

Re: where in Iowa
Hate speech? Why do you hate speech? Doesn't that make being a radio personality-ish type person rather difficult?

Re: where in Iowa
I feel like this thread brings a Jerry Springer level of discussion to CF. This is certainly not the impression I'd want to give someone who may be discovering the forum for the first time.
On the other hand, people that have actually witnessed and understand what a ghetto is might get a good chuckle at the naïveté of some here that think they know what a ghetto looks like.
HINT: working poor, or blue collar neighborhoods are only ghettos to the sheltered who have never left the state of Iowa.
Can we shut down this embarassment of a thread? -

Can we shut down this embarassment of a thread? Depends on what you mean by ghetto. There are small towns in Iowa just as impoverished and drug addled as anywhere in any major city. Less violent, but that's about it.

–noun, plural -tos, -toes. 1. a section of a city, esp. a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships. 2. (formerly, in most European countries) a section of a city in which all Jews were required to live. 3. a section predominantly inhabited by Jews. 4. any mode of living, working, etc., that results from stereotyping or biased treatment: job ghettos for women; ghettos for the elderly.
