dvd player problem
Anyone ever had a problem with their dvd player and region codes? I watched a movie Sunday night fine and then last night tried to watch a movie on my LG 5-disc dvd player and it gave me some message about check region code. Then I tried some other movies that obviously work and are the correct region and they won't play either.
I called their support line and the guy had me unplug the cord from the wall and then hold down the power button for 30 seconds to "reset" the settings back to the factory settings. No luck.
I've been scouring the internets for a solution but no such luck. I'm going to try buying one of those lense cleaners for $5 and give that a shot. I really don' want to have to pay to get the thing serviced.
Edit: Just to be clear the I dont think the unit actually "reset" because I noticed a few settings I had just changed were kept the same.

Re: dvd player problem
Try going here: DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes
See if your model is on there, a lot of players have a hidden menu that you can sometimes change region codes in, or select it to play all regions.

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure of the model number off the top of my head but I'll check it out when I get home.

Re: dvd player problem
Update: I found a hack for my model here: LG LH-E9674PA region code
and changed one hex value of my PROM from 1f to 0f and voila - my dvds work again. Apparantly now my dvd player will play dvds from all regions.
This is kinda cool, but still doesnt explain why my dvd player randomly stopped recognizing my dvds. Oh well...
Thanks again for the link cmoneyr.

Re: dvd player problem
Cool, kind of weird why it would stop, but glad you got it fixed.
