I want to stress that I don't have anything against the store. It comes down to getting what you pay for...I've bought a few items from them when quality wasn't real important ie. guest bedroom furniture.
We have many rooms of furniture in our house from Homemakers and have been very well pleased. Each time we have needed to purchase furniture, we have shopped around and then my wife and I look at each other and say, "why do we waste our time looking around, we always end up at Homemakers anyway."
Our master bedroom furniture is from Homemakers, as is our son's bedroom furniture. Also, our dining room furniture is from there, our living room furniture, and our upstairs family room. Our basement set around the plasma television is also from there. Now that I think about it, we sould be on a Homemakers commercial.
The only problem we have ever had with them is that when the delivery guys (who are not Homemakers employees, by the way) delivered our basement furniture, they scraped the wall in the stair well. They were excellent to work with in getting it taken care of.
With regards to "Wal-Mart" quality, it just depends on what you buy. Everything we have in the home is what I would consider very high quality, except the basement furniture, which we purposefully purchased Ashley lower-end stuff. If you want high end furniture, they have it. If you want low-end stuff, you can find it there, too.
All the furniture we have purchased has been high quality.

We usually get furniture there because of their financing. Pay within two years and no interest for most of our furniture.
With the new addition, Homemaker's is now essentially NFM east. Huge selection. I've had slimy salesmen there and others that were quite nice and respectful. Furniture varies from cheap to moderate, but you're not going to find the really good stuff there.
All I know about NFM is get ready to bargain. They usually have room to move on their prices.
I think you are pointing out an inherent problem with salespeople in general. Some come off like vultures, while others are nowhere to be found when you need them. It's really an art to be able to recognize when you should spend time with people, and when you should leave them alone. In a busier store with multiple salespeople, it's tough to strike that balance.
How about making them non-commission? I can honestly say that no furniture salesman is going to talk me into buying something I didn't plan on buying when I walked into the store. It's not a car dealership where you go to 10 different dealerships to find a deal.Quote:

Most of the furniture in my house is from Homemaker's and I only had one bad experience. I bought a kitchen table and they said it was on back order and it would be 4-6 weeks before I got it. Well 12 weeks later (after me calling them instead of them calling me each week for several weeks) it came in. I lugged the thing across town only to open it up and it was missing a leg and all of the hardware to put it together. So I had to bring it back and they didn't seem to care. I had to convince them to give me my money back instead of waiting another several weeks to try again...I asked for a discount and they said no. So that soured me a little on HM. But they do have good selection and prices.
Generally, and this goes for any store, I could easily find 10 people that love the place and 10 people that hate it.
Have not bought much of significance there but have nothing against the store/people.
That's always a double edged sword. It takes the right people and right management to make that work. You want sales people to be interested in helping you as well.Quote:
