The Rules of Golf are the most confusing and difficult thing I have ever seen in my life. One word can be the difference between ok and not ok. I am a golf professional and I studied this book in school and read it in my spare time, (I'm a loser I know) and still don't know everything. My recommendation would be to go out and get a rule book (they are like $5) and read the definitions and etiquette. Once you have an understanding, the rules will help you, not hurt you.

Very few people play by the book. Frankly, if everyone did, a round of golf would take forever. I can't imagine being behind a foursome of 15-20 handicappers who were playing by the book. It would take 5.5 hours. Some call it cheating, I call it having a nice fun round of golf. As long as your rules are the same as your playing partners it's no big deal. Don't get me wrong, I'm no stranger to the foot wedge. I play for fun. I'm around a 14-15 handicap. In league play I follow the letter of the law as best I understand or know it....with my buddies, we have a good time and aren't stoopid about the rules.

I don't mean foot wedge. I was thinking less blatant rules violations like winter rules and how you deal with a ball that goes out of bounds or is unplayable.

Then I must be one of the golfers that many on people here would hate. If I'm out with my dad for a fun round and it's stymied behind a tree...I could not care less if he moves it a foot, and vice versa. I play golf for the enjoyment and fun.

Spare me your silly little morality and golf argument. If you have EVER once, even just ONCE moved a ball on the golf course then your little bowling analogy makes you a hypocrite.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Obviously, from time to time if I am screwing around just playing a quick nine, I'll throw a ball down or take it out from under a tree. On the other hand, if there is some money on the line or I'm playing a tournament, it wouldn't cross my mind to do that sort of thing.
