Up -- New Pixar Movie
Really, see it. Go see it. Doesn't matter if it's in 3D, or if you catch the cheaper movie ticket. Probably one of Pixar's most emotionally revealing films yet for the older crowd, yet still more than enough to hold the kids' interest throughout the film. The screenplay is funny, and almost never relies on wink nudge jokes/pop culture references for its humor, and the characters are fantastic. The plot lags a little toward the middle, but it's nicely sandwiched by a great beginning and a thrilling end.
And not to raise your expectations too high, but I really think this movie deserves a Best Picture nod, instead of the pat-on-the-head Best Animated Picture award it will likely get from all of the award ceremonies next year. It's entertaining, but never in your face. Thought provoking and deep, but never preachy. Funny, and often hilarious, but not for the reasons you're used to.
I don't know how Pixar does it. Every year they crank out gem after gem. Even their worst films (Cars) are still outstanding compared to every other CG movie out there.
Congrats to Pixar on their 10th film!

Reason: Had to change s-c-r-i-p-t to screenplay. Sigh.

Thanks for the overview - I love Pixar movies (minus Cars), but wasn't sure about the story of this one from the little I'd seen on it. We'd been debating visiting the theater to see it.

Congrats to Pixar on their 10th film! The movie reviewer for my newspaper, the Pioneer Press, who I really align with, said almost word for word what you just said. He gave it his highest rating, usually reserved for obscure foreign films.
Definitely have to take the kids to this one.

I should clarify that I don't think Meet the Robinsons was on the same level as The Incredibles or, say, Monsters Inc. (which was great) - I just enjoyed it more than Cars.

I am usually pretty easy to please when it comes to kids' movies, but I thought MTR was a train wreck. I didn't feel anything for the characters and the plot was just weird.
To each their own, though!

Re: Up -- New Pixar Movie
I felt the same way about Wall-E last year, that was probably in my top 3 movies last year and IMO way better than some of the best picture nominees. I've been looking forward to Up for a long time. I heard the opening montage that outlines the old guy's life at the beginning is really good.

Definitely have to take the kids to this one. Was it Chris Hewitt or has he moved on?
