Re: Weber Grill or Smoker?
BGE can also act like a brick oven. I cook pizzas in mine a lot. Awesome all around grill/smoker. Once you get it, your gas grill will sit and rot.

Re: Weber Grill or Smoker?
Broodwich have you ever tried a Traeger Grill... They burn wood pellets and you can either grill with it... Or use it as a smoker. Here is a picture of it.
My brother has one and it is the greatest thing I have ever seen. We decided to make prime rib on it. So yummy. You can control the temperature on it. Either smoke stuff with the different flavored pellets, or cook it kinda convection oven style with it.

Re: Weber Grill or Smoker?
I have not played with the specific brand you are referring to. I do however have a Texas smoker that is gathering dust immediately adjacent to my BGE.
The Texas smoker did a stand-up job for years, but it was labor intensive. I do a lot of BBQin' and it was a pain in the buttocks first of all getting regular smokers and grills lit and hot. I also had to babysit the thing the whole night adjusting the vents. I also hated the water pans, which if you do a lot of BBQin' in metal you know that you have water a pan or you have shoe leather.
The BGE is completely sealed off between the firebox and the dome. If you put your hand over the top of the smoker, you can feel the moisture condensing on your hand without a water pan. That is hands down the reason I love the BGE, it's nearly impossible to mess up anything.

Re: Weber Grill or Smoker?
I just bought a traeger grill and could not be happier. I have owned a Weber silver for 10 years. It was a very good grill. The traeger has no flare ups can smoke or cook steaks it has 3 settings smoke, medium, or high. Just set the thing with whatever wood pellet you want and forget it. Did ribs for 5 hours on memorial day and just flipped the ribs. You don't have to keep feeding charcoal or wood. I would recommend it to anyone.

Re: Weber Grill or Smoker?
I think with the impending move I might be able to swing the Big Green Egg...at least I'm hoping.
