HDTV Help
I just purchased a new 22' Vizio and I want to connect the Mediacom digital cable box to it. I had it working with normal RCA's (the red, yellow and white cords), but was unable to get the HD channels, all the normal ones worked just fine. I just bought the HDMI cable but I don't see where it would plug in to the back of the digital cable box. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this?

Re: HDTV Help
You can use component if you want. The R G B cord.
HD can't go through the old yellow, red, white.
EDIT: to help, what's the model number of the cable box - or snap a pic of the back and we'll point it out.

Re: HDTV Help
The box and or tv have to have component cables, green, blue and something. That and HDMI are the only options for HD I believe.

I would certainly think there would be an obvious HDMI output if it is. You may just have a standard definition digital cabe box which won't give you HD no matter what output you use. And it won' have an HDMI output. If it's the same box you already had you'll need to upgrade.
22 feet is a huge TV. Congrats. -
Re: HDTV Help
There are still a lot of cable boxes out there that don't have HDMI. You may have to go the component video option. If you need to buy cables, head over for monoprice.com. Quality products at a fraction of what you would pay at a store. I buy all my computer and home theater cables from that site.

Re: HDTV Help
Call Mediacom and get a new HD box, that'll have HDMI or connect the cable directly to your TV and you can pick the up via 5.1, 8.1, etc., but only locals.

Re: HDTV Help
I know it is an HD box because when I have it hooked up with the Red, yellow, and white cord, I can hear the HD channel but I can't see it.
So I need to get the Blue, green and red cable basically.

Re: HDTV Help
The blue green red will only do pic, no sound. Simply use the Red and White from the other cord at the same time if you like.
But if it is indeed a HD box that would get you the pic you need.

So I need to get the Blue, green and red cable basically. With mediacom non-hd boxes you can hear hd channels but there is no picture. Easiest way to find out for sure, call mediacom.

So I need to get the Blue, green and red cable basically. If it is indeed an HD box, yes, that should do it. RGB will give you the picture and the other will give you the left and right audio. Monoprice.com is the way to go for cables as mentioned before.

Re: HDTV Help
Sounds like I better call mediacom. Does the new HD box cost more or do you just trade in the old one for the new one?
As you can tell, I have no idea what is what or what I'm doing.

Re: HDTV Help
Not sure about mediacom (don't live in Iowa), but yeah you usually pay more for HD programming.

If you got the cajones call them up and cancell b/c you just got the new tv and maybe they'll offer you a year's discount.

Re: HDTV Help
I just called Mediacom and switched our regular digital box with a HD box. As long as you turn in the old box, there should be no extra charge. At least that worked for me.

Re: HDTV Help
Thanks for your help everyone. I'm gonna try and trade in for a new box with an HDMI hook up. Thanks again!
