HDMI 1.3 cables
I need to buy some HDMI cables for my TV and i am starting to see HDMI 1.3/1.3a cables and was curious what the difference is?
i'll be connecting my PS3 and at some point an HD cable/satelite box to my TV. the TV is a 52" LCD 60HTZ. i'm planning on getting an HDMI wall plate like this one too For only $7.74 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI 1.3 Decora Style Wall Plate with 4 inches built-in flexible extension cable - Dual Port (2P) | HDMI Wall Plate
also, i see there's tin, silver, and gold plated cables ... does that really make much difference? HDMI Cable

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
I've gotten the gold ones from monoprice, cheap and good quality.

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
definitely buy from monoprice

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
but what's the difference between HDMI 1.3 and other HDMI cables?
also, if i'm planning on using a wall plate, since the cables will be "spliced" together, will i loose a lot of quality going with silver plated over gold plated?

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
More than likely you don't need the HDMI 1.3a (basically supports some more features) unless all the equipment you are going to be hooking up to supports it. The PS3 doesn't need it, for instance. If the manuals of your TV and other components support it only then is it worth buying.
As far as gold, silver and tin...there are studies that prove out which are better, imo none of them are noticeable to the naked eye and I wouldn't spend extra on them.

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
Rule of thumb on HDMI cables....buy the least expensive one you can find. It really doesn't make a difference and there are numerous authorities out there that have proven it to be the case.

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
HDMI is a digital signal. It's not like analog signals where interference can play a large role in quality. Buy the cheapies from monoprice - gone are the days of buying overpriced hdmi cables from best buy.

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
Get 1.3 for compatibility's sake, it's really no more expensive. Actually 1.4 just came out like 3 days ago, but that won't be needed for atleast a few years probably. Go to monoprice like you did and just buy the cheapest you can get in the length you need.

It sounds like you are most likely plugging in the HDMI cord into the wrong port on your tv and receiver. Look for ports on the back that are labeled "HDMI" and have a skinny rectangle shape. I bet you are trying to put your HDMI cable into the S-Video port or something like that.

Re: HDMI 1.3 cables
HDMI definitely wouldn't come close to fitting in an S-Video port, but maybe into a USB port which your receiver might have, it's close, I haven't tried.
