Re: Working Out
So I start with about 15 minutes of jogging or the elliptical. Then i usually work a little bit of everything each day, about 4 days a week for about 50 minutes. I dont want to get huge or super strong. I'd rather just get more toned. So I usually mix up sets of high weight/low reps, then get less weight and more reps, or vice versa. I like to end with lighter weights and max out on reps. Feels like i get more burn and growth than doing a few reps and maxing out to get try and get stronger.
Not bad results. Dropped about 20 lbs and have added some decent muscle at the same time. I just wish they made zero calerie beer, then i would be in great shape, but I'm usually fighting a losing battle.

Re: Working Out
Welcome to CrossFit: Forging Elite Fitness
Like P90X, but free--from what I can tell it has fewer flexibility type things and more Olympic-style weights than P90X. Can be scaled to any fitness level and can be done (through substitutions) with very few pieces of equipment--even fully stocked it uses very few items (Olympic bar w/ bumper plates, pullup bar, rings, and a kettlebell will let you do 95%+ of the things).
Very popular w/ firefighters, soldiers, and anyone who needs a strong base of general physical preparedness (so you can do pretty much anything). Has endlessly varied workouts, but many core ones you hit fairly often--makes it easy to track your progress while still having a ton of variety.
Love it.

Re: Working Out
I do 35-45 minutes on an eliptical and then weights for 30 minutes or so M,W,F. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday I do 60-75 minutes on the eliptical and no weights. I take Saturday off to just rest.

Re: Working Out
By the way...just got home from the gym and I have a new gym pet peeve. DO NOT walk by me when I am in the middle of a set if you are wearing cologne or perfume. Absolutely ruins my concentration.
Why people wear that stuff in the gym is beyond me.

This is me, except I split the weight workout up to 2 sets of three days so I hit something 6 days a week, alternating back and chest with relatively low weight/high rep free weights.
I believe doing aerobics then weights is key to core strength, while it isn't necessarily a way to "get big."
