    Motorcycle Help

I am looking to replace the rear and front sprockets, and the chain on my 1981 Kawasaki KZ 750.

The front sprocket is 13 teeth. The rear has 33 teeth and the chain is an 84 link 630 chain. So far I can get all the parts for $130. Anyone out there know where I can possibly get the parts cheaper?

Well, frankly for $130, I'd just get them...but there are a lot of gearheads on craigslist and someone is probably sitting on those parts.

    Re: Motorcycle Help

There are guys parting out bikes all the time on Ebay as well as aftermarket parts suppliers who should be able to save you some cash. I entered "KZ 750" and there are 13 pages of parts being sold. I would imagine there are places selling new sprockets on there as well. I seen a 38 tooth rear sprocket on the first page.

You can try Old Bike Barn, though I've typically found that my local dealer can match the prices and save me shipping.

You should be able to get the chain at your local implement dealer or farm supply store.

I am confused as to why they offer different sprockets. The dealers told me the specs were 13 and 33. So why do these sites say that different sprockets would go in there. Is it a gearing thing? Would it be unsafe to put different sprockets with different teeth in there?

Probably, the manufacturer's standard gear ratios are middle of the road to give you good performance over a variety of situations.
Unless you're racing and want to change performance, you might want to do things differently. Hilly course = sacrifice top speed for the lower gear ratio, course with long level straight-a-ways = go for the high top speed.

    Re: Motorcycle Help

It really depends on how big of change. If they are a different size they may actually cancel each other out. You should give that place a call and tell them what you're looking to do.
