I don't think it is RIM that keeps the wifi out of the phones, since they do make them for other carriers. For some reason VZW and crew don't like the added option which would be a big benefit for me since our house has a signal that bounces between 2 bars 1X and 1 bar EVDO. There is word already out on the blogs that Sprint is now requiring WiFi on all smartphones, including a possible Tour refresh. I would find this to be a welcome change in the industry. Wireless data is usually fine, but the signal in my house isn't always the greatest so WiFi would be helpful.

Edit: Sprint is also coming out with a 3G version of it's Airave which would basically allow you to use your broadband connection for 3G data as well, so that in situations where signal is an issue (i.e. in a house) and broadband is available, a phone without wifi wouldn't necessarily be a liability.

Since I've only messed with the tour a few times, I am not REAL knowledgable about what the issues with it is, but the nice thing with dirt is this trackball is black so it shouldn't show dirt. I also think it seems a little tighter then the curve's trackball... it seemed like the curve's trackball was kind of loosey goosey when I messed with it. I think it's an improvement.

Re: New BB Phone on the Block
My new Blackberry Curve for Verizon has Wi-Fi. Don't know if that's just my phone or all new Blackberry Curves.

Most T-mobile versions have it, and have had it for quite some time.

Re: New BB Phone on the Block
All Verizon BBs after the Storm2 will have wi-fi as well, really a non-issue with all the new ones going forward, it may take them a while but Verizon eventually figures it out.
