Not that I'm a huge Red Sox fan, but that's just cool... You just need a roller. It's the grass laying in different directions that give it that look. Fill a 3" pvc pipe with sand and drag it behind your mower as you go. It helps to have a really thick lawn.

Although, I have seen people actually do a true circular spiral with like a boxed edge...maybe once or twice is all though.

We had about the equivalent of 2 acres of lawn and used a riding lawnmower.
The hub mows our lawn now, and usually does parallel to the street/sidewalk. (I was going to say he goes back and forth, just the way I like it, but it's not Friday. Yet.)

At the left is a church spire, symbolic of Brooklyn, the borough of churches; the second building from the left is the Williamsburg Savings Bank, the tallest building in Brooklyn; next is the Woolworth Building; after a general skyline view of midtown comes the Empire State Building; at the far right is the United Nations Building. The bridge in the center symbolizes that the Mets, by bringing National League baseball back to New York, represent all five boroughs.

I'm still waiting for them to improve those electric robot mowers. -
Re: Your Lawn Preference
I usually go around the outside three times to avoid getting grass on the street and sidewalks, then start parallel lines. I've thought about angling it. Maybe next time. -

So, it made me wonder, what is the more popular mowing preference at the moment?
If you're not the keeper of the lawn, what would your preference be? Yep, it must be summer . . . . -
Re: Your Lawn Preference
Since everything down here is rock and clay the necessary equipment for mowing involve a weedeater and lots of body armor to protect against flying rocks, twigs and those things deemed unidentifiable.
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience. -
Re: Your Lawn Preference
The spiral is the quickest, but for the look, I like angles with the direction altered every other mow.

As far as manscaping, I go all General Sheman on it about 3-4 times year. Burn it down the ground, and just nature take its course for awhile.
