This is not true. A ball hit off the ladder on the green monster stays in play. It has often resulted in inside the park home runs since the ball caroms in a completely different area than the fielder is expecting the carom.

If a baseball player throws a glove at a ball (air, ground, etc), and it makes contact, it's a ground rule triple. Same with if they throw a shoe, hat, any piece of equipment.
