    Re: Father's Day

Father's Day is normally a fun day for me where I hitch up the boat and go fishing with my father and grandson. A look out the window tells me it is raining so... This year is a bit of a bummer. My own father is lying in bed in an old folks home unable to use the left side of his body due to a stroke suffered in May. Tomorrow is his birthday, his 84th. I am only hoping he will smile when my wife brings a four month old great grand daughter to visit him.

Please people, enjoy the company of your father while you can. I cherish the many memories I have enjoying life outdoors with my father. Now those activities are limited to pushing him around a park in his wheel chair.

    Re: Father's Day

I went fishing with my dad and some of his friends yesterday afternoon/evening and had a few beers. Going to church today and afterwords we will be grilling steak. Relaxing after that.

    Re: Father's Day

My day includes cranking up the smoker, rubbing down about 35 pounds of beef brisket and a couple some salmon filets, then taking about a 10 hour nap until the brisket is done.

    Thumbs up Re: Father's Day

I got to work "volunteer field crew" at my daughter's softball tournament until that was called for rain; at 2:30pm I get to manage my youngest in the consolation final of a 12U baseball tournament.

My three children gave me "thoughtful" gifts this year, which is all a father can ask! My eldest gave me a giant coffee mug with a photo of the three kids on Spring Break. My daughter gave me a book on the 1908 Cubs. During Spring Break in Arizona, I admired the giant Saguaro (sp?) cactus plants and commented I'd like one for my office. My youngest gave me a cactus! I'm a proud father today...

    Re: Father's Day

Actually, I left out "brood about what a crappy father I really am" because of my "awesome" lifestyle.

No way I forget that one....

    Re: Father's Day

Played golf at TCI with my father. It was hot and it was cart path only. Thought my dad was going to croak by 18. Other than that, fun day.

    Re: Father's Day

Spent the weekend in Minneapolis. Saw Les Stroud (Survivor Man) on Saturday, went shopping and then went to the Twins game today. Got some great pictures of the new ballpark. Can't wait to sit outside and watch baseball.

    Re: Father's Day

Went back home and then drove up to Davenport and had a nice meal at the Machine Shed. Also bought him some new I-State father gear for the tailgates in the fall.
