I just picked up a new GPS today and I'm amazed how much they have changed in just a few years. I was previously using a dinosaur (Garmin C320) which did fine but it was so big and the maps were out of date.
This new one is about a 1/3 the size, longer batter life, maps for both US and Europe, bluetooth, ecoroute, POI's with pictures, free traffic updates, pedestrian mode and city explorer.
With city explorer you can buy maps for specific cities and it will tell you what forms of transportation you can take from place to place.
The Ecoroute thing does a few things. It provides a spreadsheet that allows you to track mileage, fuel used, mpg, etc. It can also try to set you on routes that are most economical. I doubt if I'll use it much.
I doubt I'll use the bluetooth portion and the traffic updates can only be used in bigger cities. I would have actually bought one with less features but the units with both Europe and US are usually loaded.
Now for the bad news. I tried downloading want of the city maps and it stuck at 50% so I thougt I would call garmin. I get on the phone and it immediately says "There is a 1/2 hour wait". I laid down the phone and waited 35 minutes to talk to someone who then transfered me to a "technician". I then heard that I would have to wait another 30 minutes so I hung up. And to think that I was complaining about Apple last week :)
