Midnight Madness 10K & Party
Anybody ever ran in this? It's this Saturday and it's my first time running in anything like this. I was just wondering if the course is somewhat flat or if there are a few hills? Also, what's the party afterwards like? Is anybody allowed to attend the party and is there booze and music or what does it consist of?
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
Its basically an out and back loop that you run twice. Each loop has one rather large hill and the rest of the course is flat. I would say it is one of the best race atmospheres in the state.
The party afterwards is always a really good time. You will enjoy it.
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
My sister and I are running the 5K. We both suck at running, so it's more of a "fun" (who in their right minds thinks running is fun) challenge than anything.

Pretty much flat, and as a 10k course it sucks, it is just two loops of the 5k course.

All that means is no reason not to negative split it.
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
The course is basically boring and uneventful with one decent hill of significant length. as everyone says it's two loops which is for my money a terrible 10k race lay out. Because of that I've found the 5k to be a more enjoyable race mostly because it leaves me with more energy to party. that being said it's typically well run and the two loop race route is better than some of the out and backs you see at some of the small town races.

Just don't run it in those boots you talked about in one of those first Friday threads. You're feet would kill you afterwards :biglaugh:
I just took up running in January and have a buddy who just took it up also. He ran the 5K in the Dam to Dam but I had to skip that for my daughters softball game. I'm running in this and then there's a Scheels 10K out at Jordan Creek in August I plan to run in also. My ultimate goal is to be able to run the half marathon at the IMT Des Moines Marathon in October. Not so sure I'll be there by then. I have been battling a nice case of strepp throat since last Wednesday so will be going into this with about two weeks of not running. Should be fun!

This. The "hill" is just an overpass. I am doing the 5k again, as the 10k (as noted) is just 2 loops of the same circuit.
Party afterward is fun. You get food and free beer as part of the race package. Good times.
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
Yes, people who don't run can get into the party for $10 or something...
It's a fun race and good party afterward :-)

Thanks for the info. I may have to spread the word to some buddies then that they can come party w/us that night if they want to pay the $ to get in.
Hopefully there's some single ladies up there to help the whole post run atmosphere

Probably better that way for many reasons!
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
I've been running the 5K for a few years now, and am making the leap to the 10K this year. It's always hot, and it's always fun. There is an uphill and an overpass both in the last mile of the 5K IIRC. Not a tough course really.
Re: Midnight Madness 10K & Party
Everyone is right on about the course. The after party is one of the best I've been to. Pretty much all you can eat and drink spaghetti and beer. Anyone can get into the after party for $15-20, can't remember which.
This year we will be attempting to break our flippy cup game participation record. 4-5 tables end to end with ~30 people on each team. Needless to say we drained those kegs pretty fast last year...
