Good post I agree with you, but I bet we disagree on the "reason" it is the best selling car.
I believe the "reason" that people want a camry is because that is what all the "cool kids" have. People get a camry so they can say look at me, I have a foreign car, I'm glamorous, blah, blah, blah.
When you actually break down the various cars, the differences are slim to none, so the desire to buy a camry is simply the result of some of the best marketing that is out there today. Just short of the marketing job done on diamonds. Since we are sheeple this stuff happens, but I do find it laughable.
I mean, why wouldn't you get a camry, duh? -

In other words, cars within each class are competing with each other.

Re: Ford Fusion???
The 2010 Fusion looks to be a nice car. There have been numerous improvements over the 2009. They have added a 263 hp Sport edition and an AWD option. They also have the Sync system which it years ahead of anything else that is offered by other companies for your media.
I recently got interested in the Sport. I may still test drive one. What I don't like is you can't get a TRUE manual transmission. You can only get a "manual" mode on the automatic which allows the driver to electronically shift. I want a true manual stick. Nothing makes driving more fun than a clutch, stick, and gas pedal to work. That alone will keep this car out of my options. However, this is the first time in YEARS they have a car I've been interested in.

Re: Ford Fusion???
I shifted to the foreign automakers in the past, but I am again swaying the other way. The fact is that the difference between the quality isn't nearly as big as Consumer Reports and the general lemming consensus would lead a person to believe.

Re: Ford Fusion???
I've owned a 4runner, xterra, civic and corolla. I looked at the american autos but their suv's didn't compare to the ones I was interested in.
I don't know what chevy's small cars look like, but seriously that cavalier was a death trap, similar to the blazer, if you look at it statistically and with the safety ratings. Focus wasn't near the car either.
If I were looking for a medium to large sedan, then I think the u.s. automakers have brought competitive offerings, I am looking at an avalanche going forward, and the Tahoe has always been high on my list. The Escape is certainly a capable vehicle as well.

Re: Ford Fusion???
Good points. However, follow the money trail. Ford Headquarters = Detroit, MI. USA. Just sayin'.

Re: Ford Fusion???
Don't just look at the out the door price. Resale value is more important. It's a global economy where Honda and Toyota employ thousands of Americans, as well as suppliers in America. For example, a Camry has more domestic content than a Mustang. I'm not Anti-Domestic or Pro-Foreign, people just need to sit back and weigh the facts. I will say this, there is no way I will ever buy a GM product as long as the Feds own them.

I'm not a Ford fan at all, but they are making some nice cars these days.

I do like the looks of the Sport package. Only issue is that it's close to 30 large with AWD. Quite a bit more competition there than at $25k. Probably not much in the way of incentives on that package since it's new.
Still probably the only Ford vehicle I could see owning.

Still probably the only Ford vehicle I could see owning. Yeah, I priced up everything I liked on that car and I was right at $30k. That is a bit steep, IMO. I was figuring you could go well below the MSRP though and that there are incentives. I haven't checked into it. There might be none.
