    How is this entertainment?

    Whitney | Ep. 105 | MTV's 16 and Pregnant | Full Episode Video | MTV

Since when is a 16 year old girl giving birth on TV entertaining? Why do we promote things like this in our society?

    Re: How is this entertainment?

My guess is they show it so everyone else can feel better about themselves. You know, kind of like, "Wow, and I thought my life was complicated. Guess I don't have it so bad."

Sadly though, that probably not the case. I'm sure they glorify it and make it seem like getting knocked up at 16 is cool and acceptable.

    Re: How is this entertainment?

I think sometimes MTV tries to create "after school specials" that are suppose to teach teens lessons but actually glorify whatever it is they are focusing on. I'm sure in this series they show a few scenes of the girl crying because she's overwhelmed with such a burden at such a young age, or her b-friend bails out cause he can't handle the responsibility. But at the end of the day the take home message from MTV will be: hey she's ok now, doing fine living with her mom so having kids at 16 isn't such a bummer.

Same thing with every single episode of TRUE LIFE.

    Re: How is this entertainment?

i've watched some of the episodes with my wife and we couldn't believe some of the stuff we saw. newborns being laid in cribs with loose blankets covering them up to their neck, stuffed animals all around the crib. and the mom of the 16yr old is just sitting there listening to her daughter complain because she doesn't see her friends all the time like she used to. i don't find that show entertaining at all. i guess MTV needs to show something since they don't play videos anymore.

No, it's not entertaining until you watch at least three of these in a row. I happened to see a part of one this weekend where, during her labor, the girl said something to the doctor, nurses, her mother, like "I'm really embarrassed that you all have to look at my crotch."

    What did you expect, girl?

From what I can tell, it's actually not a bad show -- showing what a pain in the behind it is to be a teen parent.

It's not "entertainment" per say, more of a watch this and try to realize that your actions have consequences type deal. You really didn't get that? I didn't know MTV shows actually went over anyone's head. Live and learn.

ever since people started to think "reality" television is entertaining. i think all reality tv is the biggest waste of time.

As someone else said, this is probably the intent. Unfortunately, as MTV is responsible for it, they'll end up glorifying teen pregnancy/teen parenthood in the process.

It's not "over my head". I just think that it projects the wrong message to teens.

I could ask the same question/make the same statement of about 75% of what's on TV nowadays.

Is there actually anything on MTV that is entertaining to anyone other than teenage girls and stupid people?

I ask myself the same question. Must have been a repeat on of Beach Patrol on TruTV.
