Re: Scariest movie you've ever seen
When I was in 1st Grade I saw the original Nightmare on Elm Street (back in the 80's). I had nightmares for years after that.
As an adult, the original Saw movie.....I had no idea what it was about and went to it in the theater. I was shocked that someone could think of something that distrubing.

I'm not a fan of the "horror" genre, but for me, "The Hitcher" with Rutger Hauer still scares me.
There is zero violence in the movie and exactly one drop of blood. But that movie just chilled me to the bone.

When I was young, The First Power scared me.....now it's just pretty much Lou Diamond Phillip's acting that scares me.

The Ring definitely got to me. I unplugged the TV in my room after watching that. Also, movies that mentions specific times when evil happens, for instance, The Excorcism of Emily Rose, mentions that 3am is the hour when evil is most powerful and the devil is most likely to strike. Now, whenever I wake up at 3 am to take pee, I always think about that and wonder if I'm going to be possessed when I get back to my bed.

I would have to say The Shining, or Candyman.

POLTERGEIST
I watched it when I was 7 or 8. Very bad idea.

When I was little Carrie scared me. Sissy Spacek was very good.

Silence of the Lambs was the only one that stuck with me. Otherwise horror movies dont get to me much. Im not one for explicit torture and gore. One thing that creeps me every time is the breaking off of fingernails. Gross! (stir of echoes)

While I know it won't be a popular pick (although nice to see it once already in the thread), The Blair Witch Project.
What scared me the most was that they didn't show you any stupid monster that couldn't exist. Or any stupid special effect that could never happen. The element of 'hey that could happen to me when out camping' really struck a pinch of good fear into me.
A great runner up would be House of 1000s Corpses. Can't explain as to why it scarred me, but as I watched it the first time I had this feeling like 'I should NOT be watching this'! Which was great because it had me hooked.

Session 9 was creepy. But my top choice would be The Exorcist.

The newest make of The Hills Have Eyes wasnt necessarily scary but never have I watched a movie where I wanted to the bad guy to get his in the most brutal way.

There is zero violence in the movie and exactly one drop of blood. But that movie just chilled me to the bone. This, along with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, are two excellent original movies. The recent remakes just aren't quite as good. The Ring was off the weird-as-hell-ometer as was The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
