Strangers was scary but good scary I watched it at the dollar theatre in Ames. The part where you think it's over, but it's not - some guy got up and started to leave and a kid yelled - "I've seen this movie, you don't want to leave yet." So the guy stood in the aisle for 15 minutes watching the rest of it.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose scared the hell out of me. Even after repeat viewings, I'm creeped out for a day or so.

Those type of movies really make use of environment. The creeks, whispers, etc that can happen in real life. I think thats why they really grate on your nerves. Those are the best types of horror movies. Not the blood and guts.
Ghostly laughing children weird me out in movies too.

Halloween the first time I saw it was creepy. Especially the music.

Agreed. The guy could just stand there in a window and that was enough. He didnt even need to kill anyone. Just stare at you with those dark hollow eye holes.

Re: Scariest movie you've ever seen
Not the scariest movie, but the movie that gave me nightmares at the time was Forbidden Planet.
Of course, I was 7 years old.
The creature from the Id that even Robbie the Robot couldn't stop, that could melt Krell metal, that was invisible. That was scarrrrry.

Another vote for the Shining. There are some very strange scenes in that movie. It does a really good job of conveying the isolation to the viewer. You feel the helplessness of being in a remote desolate spot with no one to help.

The Shining, watching that at the Stanley Hotel in Estates Park, CO where Stephen King was inspired to write it freaked me out, couldn't sleep at all when I was there. But then I found out the next day they filmed scenes from dumb and dumber there and I was fine after that.

The Stanley isn't remote or scary enough to have been in the movie.

It might. If you hadnt noticed. Women frequently strip naked in horror movies.

I didnt think it was awful. It wasnt great by any means but it was made for tv. You have to set the bar a little lower for those.
