KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
I was glad to hear that KxNO is picking up the Viking's broadcasts this year. I'm bias, but I think this makes the most sense given the fact that NFL fans are pretty split in central Iowa between Vikes, Bears, Chiefs, and Packers. Since the Vikes, Bears and Packers are all in the same conference, this gives them some radio exposure too (granted, not with home broadcasters) in central Iowa. This fact works against the Chiefs and now that they're in a down period, I can see why KxNO has dropped them (I believe they carried Cheifs games for a couple years?)
Also, KxNO is going with the hot team....especially if the Favre thing come through. There's also Sage...
Once Vikes start down trending in a few years (as all teams seem to go through peaks and valleys), I could see the coverage changing to whatever team is currently showing most potential. If I'm not mistaken, KxNO carried Rams games when they were good and had Kurt Warner.
I actually think this rotating team affliation makes sense. Do others agree? That said, I really like when they have network coverage during NFL sundays where there is someone in studio and they keep providing updates for each of the games. Personally, if KxNO wasn't carrying the Vikes, my preference would be the network coverage as opposed to settling on just one team.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
Can't go wrong with more football on the airwaves.
I'm a Steelers fan (not likely they'd get picked up locally), but I can listen to just about any football game on the radio. Better than picking up some NBA game on a drive or out in the yard.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
Given the fact that most Iowans are probably some sort of NFC North flavor I don't have a real problem with the Vikings selection. Imo, there isn't a no-brainer selection for KXNO. I don't listen to football on the radio unless I have to so I didn't really care anyway, but I would have voted for KC, personally, because I am an AFC guy.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
Didn't KXNO have KC in recent years? What happened to that arrangement? Did they drop them? (Get dropped?)
Vikes make sense. Closest team other than KC.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
I am very happy they are coving the vikings but on a different note, why do they cover they royals baseball? Are there really that many royals fans around the dsm metro area? I figured it would be more cubs fans since we have a cubs farm team here in dsm. Please fill me in....

Need more bears games on tv and radio.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
Why does any station outside of KC carry Royals baseball? That's a better question.
Maybe they actually get some sort of monetary benefit from it.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
KXNO carries Royals games, I think. Not all of them, but they usually have 4 or 5 a week.

Except for the weekday afternoon games, KXNO airs all of the Royals games.

Pretty sure 1350(?)am has the rights to the Cubs in the DSM area. Plus if you carry the Cubs then that would take off the KXNO afternoon hosts for many days since Cubs play so many day games.. Maybe that's a good thing. -

Did you seriously not know that the Cubs are on 1350?

I'd be willing to bet that no matter who is on the air in that time slot would see lower ratings during baseball season.
If it's a question of listening to Jon Miller (last summer), Murph and Fales, or the Cubs, the Cubs win every time.

nope. just started listening to kxno in the past few weeks. dont really listen to much radio while i'm down here at school.

Re: KxNO to Carry MN Viking Games
Not a Vikes fan, but more football on the airwaves cannot hurt... Always have the radio on when working outdoors on weekends.
Probably a good move by KXNO as Vikes fans will support it, and others will listen.
It's a radio thing. They probably won't grab a lot of people who don't normally listen to radio on Sundays, but they'll grab a bit of the audience that does.
