Warning to those reading this who drive by there: Ames PD tends to hang out there. Beware if coming from the West. They sit behind the brush a little bit and they're tough to spot before it's too late.

I've been thinking all along before the center opened that it looked small. It is much larger once inside. Was told it can accomodate up to 3,000 people. There is plenty of areas to keep kids and adults entertained...the red slide is, dare I say, a little frightening, which is a good thing. Very fast and you can't see where you are headed as you have to lie completely flat and of course it is dark. Lazy river is the best one I've been on.
Kudos to the city on this one. And, yes, in response to previous poster, it is inevitable that business will be taken from Nevada.

Re: Ames Aquatic Center
Agreed, went on Sunday with the three kids, had a blast. Lost to keep everyone busy and not too crowded. Biggest complaint is not enough desk space for chairs, etc. Lots of people laying out in the grass, which there is a TON of. Saw lots of kids and families trying to have the highest spot on the hill to sit. Plan to go back LOTS of times this summer.
Should the city of Ames be worried about taking business away from Nevada?
Very important lesson learned... NEVER pass up the opportunity to acquire a bottle of Templeton Rye... NEVER. -

Why should they, they have a responsibility to serve the Ames community, not Nevada.

Re: Ames Aquatic Center
There was a sign up on 13th St. by the railroad tracks that said the parking lot was full and directed people to park somewhere else. Sounds like they didn't pave enough parking spots.

Re: Ames Aquatic Center
We went yesterday, the lot said it was full but we happened to find a guy leaving and stalked him to his car. The pool was very nice, but very busy, if they had more parking spots it would be unbearable with more people inside IMO.
The kiddie area is really nice, with a small slide. Lots of places to lay out, the grassy hill is a nice touch. The slide into the big pool is crazy fast, lots of fun. The lazy river is neat, although it was packed and you basically had to wait as people finished with their tubes before you could go.
It's bordering on being too small, but I like it, best pool we've had in Ames by a long shot.
