Perhaps, but it is a short sighted view if so.
I got a subscription over there in May, and I have zero regrets. I enjoy the recruiting articles from the CR writers, and also the ones from the rivals network that show up in The Ticker for Iowa State targets. And for the people that say give the money to the Athletic department, I respond with this, it's 2009, we're in the big XII, we need sites like CR and CSR, all recruits go to those pages, they like seeing themselves and what's going on. For instance the Pierce Richardson article that was up on CR all weekend was because that kid contacted Paul to tell him he was coming to Ames. If we had recruits having to come here for info on themselves, well, that probably wouldn't go to smooth.
And I would say that most people at CR donate more money to the program that people at CF. Do you really think $100 a year is going to be a difference in how much somebody donates? I don't
And don't you think Iowa State likes these message boards? They keep fans excited during the offseason. They keep them informed on who the new players are going to be. I think it helps ticket sales as well. People hear about recruits, what the coaches say, etc through the message boards and get excited and go out and buy tickets
When I started my Rivals membership I didn't donate at all to ISU. Being a member of that board made me see how far ISU is behind the other schools in revenue and got me lots more excited and a much bigger fan of the program. I have become a donor...and would argue that ISU actually makes more money because of places like CF and CR.
well i just got a montly subscrition to cyclonereport and iowapreps, looks good so far
