Re: Home security
I just play Barry White next to my front door all the time. It makes potential robbers think about the potential to see me indisposed, and clearly frightens them away. I'd say it's a fairly cheap (I think maybe $5 a month in elec), and effective. Haven't been broken into in 20 years.

Its been out there for years and I've not been burgled yet. It must be working.

Re: Home security
I carry two guns with me at all times. “There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.” -
Re: Home security
I use renters insurance. If they want something bad enough they'll come in and take it. I refuse to have a shoot-out with anyone so I don't keep a gun in the apartment (I think I may be the only Texan that doesn't have a gun).

Re: Home security
Well the gun works if you're there, etc, however it doesn't do much when gone to work, etc unless you put up NRA signs or some such. Even with a gun, it's not going to detect the break in :)

Re: Home security
I just took some extra stickers from my parents house and put them around my house. No problems yet.

Re: Home security
I live in a suburb in Iowa, why do I need a security system? There is one that came with our house and I just unhooked it.

You can't possibly be naive enough to believe that there is zero crime in Johnston and all the action is here in Urbandale.
Home invasions with killings involved are very rare, but residential burglaries are much more common than you might think. They just don't get the publicity.

I remember hearing about a series of thefts in Johnston not too long ago. Apparently the thieves were targeting unlocked parked cars and garages that were left open. Like a lot of things, don't do anything stupid and you don't have much to worry about.
