Does Anyone here use E*Trade?
I am wanting to open up an either a CD or money market account. I want to be able to access it if something comes up. Does anyone have any experience with them or what they recommend. Thanks.

I used them a few years back but they started charging me if i didn't make a trade every few months. Other than that, they were fin but that was deal breaker.

I have been using INGDirect for such things and their sister company Sharebuilder. Low low fees and decent rates.
I dropped etrade years ago. I believe Sharebuilder has 9 dollar trades at the moment.

I have been using ING as well....really cant complain about their savings accounts and sharebuilder is pretty solid for trading beginners.
I would recommend them.

I've also been an ING Direct user for many years. All I have is their savings account, but it has usually given me better return on my savings account than my local bank would get me on a CD. It takes 1 day to move money into the account and 3 days to get it out. You just link it up to whatever other checking or savings account you want. Overall, it has worked great for me.
ING also offers CDs, checking, mortgages, IRAs, and some other stuff through their website. I would give it a look.

Re: Does Anyone here use E*Trade?
I might be ignorant, but why do you need an online trading house to buy a CD or MM fund? I have a brokerage account with Scottrade (no compliants) to do my online stock buying and selling. I'm not sure I'd open an account there just to handle a CD or MM. Again…maybe I'm missing something. Any decent sized bank should be able to accommodate a CD purchase or any mutual fund company can handle the MM purchase (although, you should look for the one with the lowest fees. Kiplinger's used to published this info every month. I'm not sure if they still do). Bottomline, I think you can go directly to the source (ie…the bank or Mutual Fund company) w/o opening up a trading account. What is your objective in opening a MM or CD? Maybe that will help individuals provide some guidance to your question. -

I like Ameritrade, they never charge any fees, and their trade options are pretty nice.

You must be doing the Mutuals that they offer with no transaction fees if in that limited group (There is a penatly of 49.99 if less than 180 days I believe). However, if you go with the other no load funds, it is 49.99/trade.
I have been considering using another on-line service with lower fees, just not sure which one...Scott, E Trade... I use ING to move and keep on hand $.
