It was my understanding the Humvee was already replaced with several vehicles known as MRAPs.

the mraps as u said are not as mobile and in all honesty i dont think u will ever see the humvee replaced... also ,from what i heard, its alot harder to get out asap when needed to
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

I guess that is what you need to defend against mines and IEDs.

Re: Cool military weapons
X-47A UCAV-N is not exactly the current version of that program, but whatever
Currently there is a demonstration program going on, the X-47 UCAS-D http://www.grumman.com/review/005-us...d-program.html

Re: Cool military weapons
X47 is experimental...
If I were the Taliban sleeping in a cave right now, I would worry more about this very active aircraft: RQ-4 Global Hawk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I would also be weary of this aircraft if I were an Iranian nuclear scientist....

Seriously - a fine example of pushing a technology, just because we can.

Re: Cool military weapons
Honestly, the coolest vehicle I can think of is the French Panhard VBL. I want. I really, really want....
Seats 3 comfortably, and has twin steerable turbine drives for swimming in water.
And Boeing's latest project is pretty darned cool, and definitely retro:
How 'bout just screw high tech and go and shoot those that need it in the face... (thought the FLIR belies an itty bitty amount of tech.)

Originally Posted by cmoore_23 the mraps as u said are not as mobile and in all honesty i dont think u will ever see the humvee replaced... also ,from what i heard, its alot harder to get out asap when needed to The Army is already working on its replacement. A lot of the Army's needs are starting to approach the limits of what the Humvee is capable of performing. For instance, the Humvee towing the M119A2 howitzer. The M119A2, with the full set of BII, approaches 5,000 lbs. The Humvee's problem isn't that it doesn't have the power to pull it, the problem is it isn't rated to stop that much towed weight. And it's not a matter of sticking bigger and badder brakes on the thing. The problem is the fact that it had to be "uparmored" after the fact. While those uparmor kits for the Humvees are cool and have saved many lives, the Humvee was never designed to be equipped with them.
The Humvee may never completely go away, but as far as a battlefield transport, it's days are numbered.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
