Is this irony, hypocracy, or both?

The Iowa State Center sent out an email to university staff promoting ticket sales for Cheech and Chong's Nov. 5 "Light Up America" appearence at CY Stephens, while at the same time three football players have been suspended indefinately for allegedly doing just that.

I have no problem whatsoever with the suspensions, but I'm struggling with the mixed messages.

OMG, Who cares? They are trying to promote ticket sales to a COMEDY ACT.

I actually agree that it is pretty hypocritical and interesting timing. Look, I like the comedy of Cheech and Chong as it is hilarious. It's socially ok to make fun of weed. I've always thought it was interesting that it was ok to make weed jokes, but there is a much thinner line with other banned substances such as meth or cocaine. Would it be allowed to be a comedy show in Iowa if it was about meth. Wouldn't there be an outrage if that was on campus? Then why is it ok to have one about marijuana? What kind of message is it sending to students if even the university doesn't take it serious enough to not promote a show which is really about a weed.

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

I really wouldn't care, because the people running the show are doing their friggin job (Trying to sell tickets to an upcoming show).
So, a couple players got caught with sticky on the inside of a jar and seeds, oh my, the sky is falling. However, it just say happens that the stoned pair are coming to Ames to do a comedy act around the same time and the department is trying to make money by selling tickets. Call whoever runs the arena of there and you'll give them their laugh for the week.
NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.
