Chip Carey hangs up on Round Guy
I had the misfortune of listening to "Out of Bounds" on 1700 on the way to lunch today. They were interviewing Chip Carey and they threw out some horribly embarrassing questions that just screamed small town radio stiffs.
I only caught the end, but one of the last questions centered around how Harry Carey would pronounce Fukudome. Chip was never too close to Harry, who's been dead for over 10 years, but Chip answered it professionally anyways. Next comes a joke from Round Guy out of the blue. Asks Chip to name the four Alou brothers. Chip thinks this is a straight up question and tries to answer. RG throws out Boog for the fourth one. Boog Powell was an Alou but didn't want to be Boog Alou. Ha ha. Chips still goes along with the interview, plays along and says the audience at the Yankees game probably wouldn't find it too amusing.
RG asks if there is another *hip in the family following Skip and Chip. Chip brightens up as most fathers would do, mentions all 4 kids and the fact that his wife is home alone with an 11 month old and that he'll be glad for the season to end so he can get home and help in the house, change diapers, etc. RG fires back some comment that Chip must have really been busy at home during the off season and then nothing on the other end. RG repeats the joke, thinking he didn't hear him. Chip's gone. Hung up on him.
I'm not a big Chip Carey fan but it takes some fortitude to do a small town Des Moines radio program a few days after he botched a call during the Twins game. Then to be rewarded for being a good guy with a brutal unprofessional interview.

I did think Chip was horrible during the entire Twins-Tigers game...but this is not called for...didn't listen to it...but it doesn't sound funny.

Round Guy is a disgrace to all that is good in this world.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I thought Cotlar was bad until he teamed with Garmin and Round Guy. Cotlar is actually the best of the three by far. Someone remind me again of why the Round Guy is a host of a sports talk radio show?

Re: Chip Carey hangs up on Round Guy
Why, may I ask, would that surprise you?
Round Guy is yet another in a long line of absolutely obnoxious and totally worthless "personalities" on Des Moines sports radio. I haven't listened to he and Garman for months now because, quite frankly, I have never listened to anyone on radio more nonsensical than he is. In the month or two that I caught them over the noon hour (before I couldn't take it any more), I don't recall him ever asking a guest a question that contained any substance whatsoever. Everything to him is supposed to be funny (I guess he is a stand-up in another life). Unfortunately it may be to him, but my guess is that to those listening to him on the radio, it is just simply ridiculous.
To me, Round Guy, Keith Murphy and Andy Fales are as bad as it gets on sports talk radio. And to think we've got all three of them in Des Moines. How did we get so lucky?

I'll just say that garmin and round guy make Larry Cotlar look a lot better than what he really is, at doing a sports show....

Round Guy is a tool. The face and body that was made for the radio.

I just thought he was off the entire game...and I recall him being above average when working for the northsiders...
