Re: Honor Flight
I feel cool not being the only person up at 3am. At least you aren't doing ******* homework.

Re: Honor Flight
What is an Honor Flight?
And yes- homework at 3:23am sucks, especially when it's for an 8am class.
True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Honor Flight
Congratulations on being chosen to play for this event!
How did you do at Valley Fest? My kids graduated from Waterloo West and had many competitions against your band. Through their years, the West band won some and lost some against Ankeny, but the scores were always very close. You have a great program!
Hit all the high ones today!

WWII veterans are being flown to see the new World War II memorial in Washington DC, and the tab is being picked up by private donations. I believe Casey's has sponsored at least one flight, and Hy Vee has sponsored another. A great idea to honor our veterans. -

My neighbor's father went on this flight just last weekend and my neighbor met him out in DC and told me it was very emotional.
My dad was a WWII vet and died a few years ago...I wish he was still around for this.

I think it's great that most people know what it is simply by the name, "Honor Flight."

My dad was a WWII vet and died a few years ago...I wish he was still around for this. My step-dad "hit the beaches" and passed several years ago. Last night I was thinking how cool it would be for him to be able to go on one of these as well.
I was also thinking about how "easy" it is now. The way troops get rotated in and out of theatre versus going in and really not getting to come home until it is over.

Re: Honor Flight
how do they choose vets for these trips? They've already started planning the next one I heard.
Hope is not a method. Soon is not a time. -

FYI: it's not just Iowa, although that's what I'm familiar with.

Re: Honor Flight
I was at the airport catching an early flight to NY during the honor flight in Aug. It was cool to see those guys get some great recognition.

Re: Honor Flight
I think this is a really cool idea for these guys. With that being said, HOW EXHAUSTING for a young person, let alone 80+ year olds.

Re: Honor Flight
I'm in Bayeux France today and visited Utah, Omaha, Point Du Hoc, and the memorial cemetery. Very cool stuff.
