    Dow finishes above 10,000

The Dow finished above 10,000 for the first time in about a year. This mark is apparently a big psychological milepost for a lot of investors, with some people thinking that there may be a correction at hand, or at least some major profit-taking. Others think this may be the point where people on the sidelines are finally convinced that the rally is real and it's safe to jump back in the market.

I pulled back a little today, but haven't made any major changes in our portfolio allocations. What do you knowlegdable investors on the board think is going to happen next?

I think we will see another dip in the market before it starts to fully recover.

Don't know how knowledgeable I am, though I did get mostly out of the market a couple of years ago when the prime rate was getting ridiculously low, setting off the borrowing frenzy. But today gave people more confidence that bank profits (and tech profits) are good, and the financial sector often leads a long term market rally. I'm enjoying the ride and staying in, but will be keeping a close eye on the earnings reports now as they continue to roll in.

The dollar is so weak that is why the DOW is up or at least plays a big part in it. I think we will see a drop again.

I have no doubt it will drop a bit soon. I hope it does. I don't need big money for a while.

I am just hoping we avoid hyper-inflation in the coming years.

The market was over sold in march and we experienced a sling shot recovery. I think we will see 12000 on the dow in the next 6 months.....then we will see if the economy is going to turn around and if the govt can figure out the deficet at all.

I also hope it stays low for awhile. I am continuing to put money into the market while it's low...I'll either be a wise investor a few years from now or my wife will have my kangaroo pouch dangling from an apple tree.

Cool Re: Dow finishes above 10,000

The time to get back in the market was months ago. If you get back in now it's like buying a car for $15,000 you could have got for $10,000 nine months ago.

I think the market will continue to go up over the next 6 months, then cool off next summer a bit, but no big drop or anything.

What is this 10k based on? Lower consumer confidence? BofA continuing to tank? Employment numbers continuing to decrease?

I don't know much about the market and I don't claim to, but this rally confuses me.

FYI - this is the 29th time in history the DJIA crossed 10k.
