George Lucas working on new Star Wars Trilogy?

It's still in the rumor phase, but if James Cameron's new "Avatar" movie is as big a hit as Cameron thinks it will be, I could see George Lucas wanting to update the Star Wars universe. I would like to see Spielberg and/or Francis Ford Coppola take a crack at directing a Star Wars film - that would be awesome! What are your thoughts?

He has busy working on star wars live action series so I am not sure if that is completely true. The last rumor I heard was he wanted 100 episodes wrotten before they started filming.

I'd george does start working on films again I hope its directed towards adults and no more jar jar crap.

I could care less about making the old movies 3D
If he does make a new movie or trilogy he should turn over casting and directing, b/c the Anakin skywalker role was botched big time
I'd like to see a movie about Vader killing all the Jedi

I'd like to see a Knights of the Old Republic type timeframe or see what happens after Return of the Jedi.

But yes, if it's done again, he should turn over casting and directing, be an executive producer and focus on the ****** and story.

He has already ruined the original films (Hans shot first), so may as well take it all down in a blaze of horrible.

I really don't see how they can do films that take place after Return of the Jedi because so much of the continuity has already been highly detailed in the Expanded Universe (books, comics, games, etc.) and those events are officially considered Star Wars canon.

Likewise, much of the Old Republic era has also been well documented, but you're talking about a much longer stretch of years, so that probably leaves the greatest room for a feature film. You could populate it with a lot of Jedi vs. Sith, and it would be badass.

I think, in terms of a director, I would actually like to see someone like Kevin Smith, who loves the material and is very creative. Follow the model that Marvel used when they hired Jon Javreau for Iron Man.

No no no no no no no no no no NO! George Lucas has proven he can not doing regarding his classic movies w/out making them into a sad shell/savage mockery of their former greatness. He will continue raping his creations (ala South Park) and making them suck. No George Lucas, no! Stay in your room unless you can prove you aren't going to make a steaming pile of crap!

I remember watching Siskel & Ebert back in the '80's when they mentioned that he'd always intended to do three Star Wars trilogies.

Anybody else remember this?

I will be all for another trilogy however with one big caveat...Lucas can write the storyline but for God's sake don't let him write the ******. Just think how much better the new trilogy would of been if it didn't sound like a 5th grader wrote the ******...
