Just got the check from canceling the insurance on the bike clubs shuttle bus and the club needs to spend the windfall before the end of the year.
We were thinking about a small, 1000-2000 W, portable generator. Cost and noise are big considerations. I suspect that it will only be used 15 to 20 hours a year, unless we can figure out something else to use it for besides RAGBRAI. I know that Hondas are very quite. Any other suggestions?
Honda or Yamaha is the way to go. Remember you get what you pay for. You can pick up a 2000 watt Honda for about $2000. I bought two for tailgating and they are worth every penny.
Just curious why everyone is so concerned about the loudness of the generator when they go to buy one? I just bought a new 6500 watt and the last thing I was thinking about was how loud it was, I wanted to make sure it was going to run everything without popping the breaker.

I am mainly looking for something to use on RAGBRAI, so noise is a concern. I don't plan on powering 6500 watts worth of stuff.
I see a Honda EX1000 on Craigslist for $400. Is that a good deal if it is in good shape?
I think the noise is a problem for some people because they don't like talking over something as loud as a lawnmower 15 feet away.
I'd go with the Honda.
