Man when i was in high school we went 8-1 along with 2 other teams in our conference and the other two teams got in and we didn't because of tie-breakers
We went 8-1 my senior year and didn't get in. A 4-5 team that we beat 52-6 did get in. Another team in our district, who didn't even manage to score a single point in any of their district games, beat that same team 50-6.
Why are there teams that are 4-5 making the playoffs. I guess I don't pay attention to high school much anymore. However when the hell did 4-5 teams start making it?
This happened last year when they expanded the playoffs from 16 teams to 32. I don't have a problem with it, take basketball for an example, an 0-20 team still gets to participate in districts and they still get their shot at going to the state tournament. They won't make it but at least they get a chance.
In class 4A there are 48 schools and 32 now make the playoffs.
I'd like to see some statistics on the number of kids/injuries for these teams with poorer records getting in.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association has figured they can make some jack with extra games, but at what price?
