It was a weird mix of people but then again it reminded me of a hometown bar in podunk Iowa. I met several women there. Several friends. And always spent under $20.

When I was at college Thomas was a bartender their, and AJ was the door guy/karaoke person some nights. Thomas was a great bartender. He batted for the "other team" persay but he would always give our group free shots or half price shots and way over mix the amount so we basically got 2 shots each.

Heck I even got banned there for a week. My two buddies with me at the end of the night started a Karaoke book on fire on the floor. AJ didn't like that too much. We then saw him at the Cyclone Truckstop after hours and bought him breakfast. All was good.

I haven't been there in 2 years now. I wonder if Rose still sings every Sat night, or Pony boy (wierd guy with a long ponytail always with Rose) still hang out there.

Thanks for mentioning this place.. I have to stop in again... Cyclone Truckstop... That was another classic place that shouldn't of closed down. Ok.. It might of been a dump, but it had by far the best breakfast in Ames. You could order your food, pass out and they would wake you up when it got to the table. Can't believe I never seen someone arrested there.
Yep...that's the crew I was thinking of.

I remember my first Wednesday night at the Fox, started eating a piece of candy and about had my hand ripped off, didn't know that each piece of candy was equal to one pitcher.

Re: Fox 1 Lounge in Ames

Another poster here and I just did a little stroll down memory lane after the game on Saturday. Started at Welch Ave, then on to Paddy's/Sips, and then off to the Fox.

Welch still seems the same. Even some of the same bartenders as when I was in college (late 90's). Paddy's and Sips were both pretty dumpy, even for what used to be Winstons/Tazzles, when I was there. They have a shuffleboard upstairs now, which I'm a big fan of, but it had peanut shells, popcorn, and some drywall parts in the pockets, and empty beer bottles stacked underneath the table and around the walls. Downstairs was the same way. Just weird how they seemingly do no upkeep in those bars...

The Fox really doesn't seem any different from my college days. My roommate and I, our last couple of years, frequented that place, mainly on Saturdays. They still have karaoke contests every Saturday night, and it's not too hard to win some "Fox dollars". I don't think I've ever gone there and NOT won. In fact, Saturday night was the first time I remember not winning at least $15. It's definitely a townie bar, and they do like their regulars. But, if you're nice to the dj's and servers/bartenders, you're good to go...

I know now-a-days a bunch of the vet students hang out there almost exclusively.
