Re: Neapolitan Style Pizza in Ames

Tried it out after the game tonight. I thought it was pretty good. Different then about any other pizza you'll get in Iowa.

Just a question regarding the sauce, is it chunky tomato sauce as the name implies (Crushed tomatoes)? My wife and I are considering dining there before the game on Saturday but we're not big fans of chunks of tomatoes.

    It's crushed tomatoes.

Edit: If you've never had crushed tomatoes, it's not chunky.

The one thing I noticed about this pizza and the pizza that I had in Rome is the crust around the outside. The place that I love in Rome doesn't fold over the edges of the crust. The whole pizza is the same depth.

Re: Neapolitan Style Pizza in Ames

Ate there last night with the brood for the first time.

First off, and most importantly, the pizza was fantastic and served quickly (as they advertise). Very thin and crispy with lots of flavor. I was a little apprehensive, esp. with my young kids, on the crushed tomatos but this has the consistency of red sauce. Both of my kids liked the pizza which seals the deal for future visits. I like the idea that everyone gets their own pizza which does away with debating on what toppings to get. A little on the expensive side as we paid just under $26 for four people, including 4 and 6 year olds eating off the kids' menu, and that was with just water.

Less important opinions...I'm not a fan of the layout and design of the place. It has a modern influence with small yet clumsy tables and no booths. Since they are selling the traditional Italian pizza theme it would have been more "genuine" to go with an older look such as booths and tables with checkered table cloths (for example), mural on the wall, some black and white photos, etc. Again, not deal breakers here, just some observations.
    There was one?

Went yesterday before the game. Add another place to the list of places to choose from when I come down for a game.

I agree somewhat about the layout. I like the modern design, but they could use some booths and sturdier tables. Also, the music there was a little bit crazy. Finally, I wonder if they have a plan to improve access. That place is tough to get to even for someone familiar with the area. An outsider seeing the sign from Duff might as well not even try. I thought that they'd be sharing a parking lot with Fuji and Old Chicago, but they put up a fence there.
