I don't mean to sound harsh against animals because I'm not and I think beating an animal to death is horrible but pit bulls should seriously be wiped off the map.

I have a rotty that is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. Its about training if you dont put in the time than thats the results you get. And those owners shouldnt be allowed to have dogs

Over a football game? Come on.

On women its only acceptable if its in a strictly kinky sense. I have no problem with somebody hitting a dog as long as it isn't hard enough to hurt it. I don't have pets and don't plan to but my brother has a dog and if it gets in the trash he smacks it enough to get the point across. Dog doesn't yelp and that is ok in my book

I think it's in between MustangCy and CyCrazy.
I don't think there's any doubt that pit bulls seem to have a natural aggressiveness or dominance. But I'm a believer such things can be trained.
I'm also a big believer that dogs are impacted a great deal by environment. IMO, the overwhelming cases (not all, of course) these dogs are selected by the owners because of their reputation, the "macho" factor. And because of that... let's just say they become what they are thought to represent by that owner.

It sucks for the pup, but it is probably for the best that it wasn't raised to adulthood.
That doesn't excuse the guy for doing it, though. He is still trash.

I also volunteer at the humane society and have seen FAR too many sweet pit bulls given a bad rap because of how people treat them.
They're mean cecause they're trained to be.
Pit bulls are actually less agressive than many dogs, including huskies, labs, chihuahuas and lhasa apsos. The problem is, most of the people that get pit bulls get them because they want to "feel tough" and they subsequently treat their dogs like crap and are abusive to them.

I'm sure 90% of these pics (graphic) are from pit bulls the family considered "harmless".

Agree. (A little smack.) Get the point across, then its over.
Beating a dog is horrible.

Look, I don't doubt environment can have an affect on pit bulls and if the owner is an idiot that can have an affect as well. But the fact is pit bulls are naturally agressive and are built, more so than almost any other dog, to tear some **** up...big time.

This.... This is way these two breeds get a bad hand. Its people who think they are killing machines and dont train them and dont care about them. They want them for a toughness symbol. Both breeds are excellent dogs, I will always have a rotty. They just get a bad rap because bad people want them for the wrong reasons

It's not by coincidence they are selected for such horrible things like dog fighting.
But I still think enviroment is an overriding factor in their rep. They're picked because of what they can do - hence they disproportionately end up doing it.
Speaking of all this - anyone catch that dog fighting segment, and its followup - during the Michael "POS" Vick trials and stuff - on HBO's Real Sports w/ Bryant Gumbel?
Makes you absolutely sick. There are some real f'd up people in this world.

We were a bit worried about it with the baby, mostly because of the reputation (not to mention sheer size).
He was the sweetest dog ever. Heck, the family cat beat him up regularly. Dumb as a box of rocks. But sweet as could be. Let the kid do everything but ride on his back - and I'm sure she did that a few times.
